ar03—-Antique Carved Letter Opener .

This letter opener is possibly Ivory or some other bone which deepens on ones opinions which I have had . it is Japanese that most collectors think , Scrimshaw work of good high quality and is 19th century. the scenes on this letter opener is of a whaleling fleet and these type of items where sold to the visiting  seamen when in the harbour . the carving is on both side of this item.
